Sub- and Near-Critical Hydrothermal Carbonization of Animal Manures

نویسندگان

چکیده

To produce hydrochar with less volatile matter (VM) and more fixed carbon (FC) to increase its stability, this study compared the hydrothermal carbonization (HTC) of hen (HM) swine (SM) manures at typical HTC sub-critical temperature 210 °C slightly super-critical 400 °C. Physico-chemical properties such as proximate analysis; ultimate Brunauer–Emmett–Teller (BET) surface area; higher heating value (HHV); chemical oxygen demand (COD); inorganic nutrients hydrochar, gaseous, liquid products were determined. As expected, both VM yield decreased temperature. The heats reactions estimated be exothermic, ranging from −5.7 −8.6 MJ/kg. FC approximately doubled, while significantly a 42.7%, suggesting high potential producing stable via near-critical (NCHTC) treatment SM. Additional work is needed before recommendations on temperatures can made. Specifically, there need experimentally investigate how chars produced each condition influence plant growth soil emissions.

Hydrothermal carbonization of municipal waste streams.

Hydrothermal carbonization (HTC) is a novel thermal conversion process that can be used to convert municipal waste streams into sterilized, value-added hydrochar. HTC has been mostly applied and studied on a limited number of feedstocks, ranging from pure substances to slightly more complex biomass such as wood, with an emphasis on nanostructure generation. There has been little work exploring ...

Reducing Phosphorus in Animal Manures

The presence of phytase activities in condensed cane molasses solubles (CCMS) and CCMS-Lactobacillus (Lacto) were determined. Single Comb White Leghorn layers were fed .25 and .45% available P (AP) diets supplemented with CCMS and CCMS-Lacto for nine 28-d periods to determine phytase activities of the gastrointestinal (GI) tract contents and intestine, liver, and pancreatic tissues, the GI trac...

Conversion of Municipal Solid Wastes into Biochar through Hydrothermal Carbonization

In this study, the hydrothermal treatment of municipal solid wastes (MSWs) for the production of biochar as a renewable solid fuel was investigated. The properties of surrogate MSWs and mixtures of newspaper and vegetables were greatly improved by hydrothermal treatment and were similar to those of coal-like fuel substances. Hydrothermal treatment increased the calorific value, the fixed carbon...

Industrial symbiosis: corn ethanol fermentation, hydrothermal carbonization, and anaerobic digestion.

The production of dry-grind corn ethanol results in the generation of intermediate products, thin and whole stillage, which require energy-intensive downstream processing for conversion into commercial animal feed products. Hydrothermal carbonization of thin and whole stillage coupled with anaerobic digestion was investigated as alternative processing methods that could benefit the industry. By...

Characterization of hydrochars produced by hydrothermal carbonization of rice husk

Biochar is the carbon-rich product obtained when biomass, such as wood, manure or leaves, is heated in a closed container with little or no available air. In more technical terms, biochar is produced by so-called thermal decomposition of organic material under limited supply of oxygen (O2), and at relatively low temperatures (< 700 C). Hydrochar differentiates from biochar because it is produce...
